Dhaanya Seeds’ corporate head quarters is at Bangalore, India and is conveniently located with good infrastructure and connectivity. The center has dedicated security, multiple redundant communications, Internet and power facilities ensuring uninterrupted operations and the highest uptime. Staff facilities at our center include recreational activities, canteen, meeting, conference and training areas.
Research Facilities
Dhaanya Seeds’ research program is one of the best in India and is run by its parent company, Metahelix. The crop breeding programmes are located at Bangalore (Maize & Vegetable crops), Hyderabad(Rice and Cotton) and Ahmedabad(Millets). In addition, a trialing network consisting of about 21 different locations spread out all over the country, assists the systematic evaluation of hybrids generated by the crop breeding program. Dhaanya Seeds is the only Indian seed company that has a dedicated in-house biotechnology research group. The transgenic traits being developed include Bt Cotton(Bollworm and Spodoptera tolerance), Bt Rice (Yellow Stem Borer tolerance). In addition, new and novel RNAi technologies are being developed for virus and fungal tolerance traits in rice, maize and vegetable crops.
Seed Production
Dhaanya’s supply chain functions are co-ordinated from Hyderabad. The Company has more than 2000 dedicated and loyal production farmers who are well trained in the techniques of hybrid seed production in rice, maize, cotton, millet and vegetable crops. Dhaanya’s seed production activities cover more than 3000 Acres in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu. The entire seed production process is monitored by a team of crop specialists in each area right from the nursery stage to harvest. The production team lays special emphasis on ensuring more than 99% genetic purity and seed quality in all production lots of its hybrid seeds.
Seed Conditioning Plants
Dhaanya’s seed conditioning facilities for hybrid seeds are based at Medchel (near Secunderabad) in Andhra Pradesh. A conditioned storage facility of about 20,000 sq.ft along with state of the art seed conditioning machinery (pre-cleaners, gravity seperators, chemical treaters, automated packing line) ensure timely and high quality seed supplies to our farmers. In addition, the company is in the process of establishing a brand new imported and completely automated cob-drying facility for its maize hybrids.
Quality Assurance
A dedicated quality assurance team consisting of field quality assurance officers and seed quality (germination, genetic purity, vigour) technicians ensure that all processed and packed seeds conform to the strict standards of the Indian seed certification agency.
Distribution & Warehouses
Dhaanya Seeds has a network of warehouses, one in each state, strategically located for the timely and efficient supply of seeds to farmers. Dhaanya’s distribution network consists of more than 500 distributors and the hybrid seeds are provided to the farmers by more than 10,000 retailers in various markets all over India.
IT Infrastructure
Dhaanya Seeds relies heavily on its well planned IT infrastructure to operate its business. Dhaanya is the first seed business in the Indian seed industry to have implemented the SAP Business-one, the only integrated financial and management information system designed specifically for the business processes of the seed industry. The production planning, seed conditioning, distribution, sales and marketing, inventory management processes are all integrated in to the SAP system providing business managers real time analysis and decision making capabilities.
